The National Archives have released the first batch of remaining documents related to the assassination of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy (DN.Y.), following President Trump’s order to make records public following the order.
archive release 229 files, which consist of more than 10,000 pages on Friday morning, are expected to be released in an additional form.
Trump took office for several days in January, following an executive order that reveals documents relating to the assassination of Kennedy, his brother and former President John F. Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
“Nearly sixty years after the tragic assassination of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, the first Americans will have the opportunity to consider a federal investigation thanks to President Trump’s guidance,” Director Tulsi Gabbard said. statement About the release of the documentation. “My team is honored that the President has led the declassification efforts and entrusted us to shed long-term light on the truth.”
It is not immediately clear that the document contains new information that has not been published in any way. A release from the Director of National Intelligence’s office says the documents have “collecting dust” at government facilities around the country for decades, unlike those related to the JFK assassination.
While much hope has been built ahead of the release of Trump’s JFK files, observers who want a smoking gun were knocked down last month as they included some new details last month, but no important information that changed the public’s understanding of what happened. Many of these documents had previously been made public in some form but were compiled.
Although some small edits remained in the JFK file, the Trump administration has also been criticized for disclosing personal information about sources used by the country’s intelligence agency or other sources involved in investigating the shooting, including some Social Security numbers. Trump defended the decision by claiming that these individuals were already dead, but at least those still alive said their information is Disclosure Without their consent.
The release notes that the RFK files have edits of Social Security and Tax Identification Numbers.
Some conspiracy theories have lingered on the RFK shooting decades later, if not to the same extent as his brother. Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of murdering RFK while running a presidential campaign in 1968, but some suggest that he was founded or another shooter was involved.
Silhan admitted to killing Kennedy and suggested that he did that about Kennedy’s support for Israel, but he later said he did not remember to do so.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. eventually came to believe Silhan is innocent and should grant parole from his life sentence.
That sentiment is not shared by most of the Kennedy family.
“Lifting the veil with RFK paper is a necessary step to restore confidence in the US government,” Kennedy Jr. said in the release. “I praise President Trump for his commitment to courage and transparency.”
The two parole boards recommended that Silhan be granted parole in 2021, but California Gov. Gavin Newsom, d., said Silhan “d could not address the flaws” and that he committed the shooting.
No documents related to King’s assassination have been released yet.
