Trump Administration Takes Steps to Limit Harmful Green Energy Projects

DOI Takes Action Against Renewable Energy Projects

On Friday, the Interior Division (DOI) made a notable move regarding renewable energy. The focus is now on assessing the environmental impacts of wind and solar initiatives before deciding on their capacity and overall effects.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgham announced an order aimed at directing agencies to deprioritize energy projects deemed to have a low environmental impact. The intent, it seems, is to bolster the country’s energy dominance through renewable sources while addressing what some see as inefficiencies in current projects. This announcement came shortly after the agency had concluded earlier measures that favored certain renewable sources under previous administration policies.

Burgum expressed concerns about the reliability of these energy projects, stating, “The huge, unreliable, intermittent energy projects weigh heavily on American taxpayers and the environment.” He emphasized that such measures are essential for achieving energy dominance in the U.S. The order, titled “Management of Federal Energy Resources and Environmental Protection,” defines wind and solar as an “inefficient” use of federal land, suggesting that these technologies yield less energy than coal, gas, or nuclear options.

In contrast, former President Biden had endorsed various green initiatives while tightening regulations on traditional power sources. Meanwhile, Trump seems intent on rolling back many of those initiatives, arguing they constitute a form of “green fraud.” It’s a complex picture, really, with competing views on energy sustainability.

As of now, the DOI did not respond to requests for additional comments on this new direction.
