Senior advisers to former President Donald Trump's re-election campaign are telling staff to “remain vigilant” following a second assassination attempt on Sunday in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump is safe after what the FBI said was the second assassination attempt this year, which happened while Trump was playing golf at the T.Lamp International Golf Course. The first assassination attempt came at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July, when a bullet struck Trump in the ear and left his face bloodied as he addressed the crowd.
Senior campaign advisers Suzie Wiles and Chris LaCivita emailed the memo to all campaign staff on Sunday evening, according to a campaign source who provided the document to Breitbart News.
“Today, for the second time in two months, an evil monster attempted to take the life of President Trump. Thankfully, no one was injured on the golf course. President Trump and all of his companions are safe thanks to the incredible work of the U.S. Secret Service,” the memo read.
“This is not an issue we take lightly. Your safety will always be our number one priority. We urge you to remain vigilant as you travel to and from work each day, remain vigilant and maintain situational awareness at all times,” they continued. “We urge you to always follow the directions of law enforcement, including the USSS, local police, and armed security personnel at our offices.”
Wiles and LaCivita closed by encouraging their staff to work together to “save America” in the remaining weeks until the November presidential election.
“With 50 days left in President Trump's campaign, we must remember that only by working together as one team can we save America from those who seek to destroy it. President Trump and Senator Vance expect the best from us, and we must deliver every day,” they wrote.
“As always, we thank you for your fortitude, strength and dedication. “We will win in November,” the memo said.
Secret Service agents found the suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, carrying an AK-47 and opened fire, Fox News reported. ReportedThe suspect is currently in police custody and his alleged weapon was found in bushes near the golf course.
Authorities said the man accused of attempting to assassinate Trump on Sunday was seen standing between 300 and 500 yards from the former president, holding a scoped rifle.
