Trump advises Pritzker on Chicago crime: 'He needs to fix it quickly'

President Trump intensified his warnings to Illinois Governor JB Pritzker on Saturday, urging him to take control of Chicago’s crime situation and cooperate with federal law enforcement.

“Last weekend in Chicago, six people were killed, and 24 more were shot. Yet, Pritzker, the weak and ineffective governor, claims he doesn’t need help to combat crime,” Trump stated, adding, “He’s out of his mind! He better fix this quickly, or we’re coming in! Maga.”

This latest warning marks an ongoing exchange between Trump and the Democratic governor. Potential 2028 presidential hopefuls, Trump and Pritzker, have engaged in verbal sparring, with Trump frequently referencing crime statistics from Chicago.

“Panicking Governor Pritzker insists crime is under control, but that’s entirely false. He’s an incompetent leader who should reach out for assistance,” Trump wrote in an earlier post this week.

Pritzker countered Trump’s assertions on Wednesday, highlighting, “Federal data indicates that 13 of the top 20 cities with the highest homicide rates are governed by Republicans, not Chicago. Additionally, eight of the ten states with the worst homicide statistics are also led by Republicans, and Illinois isn’t among them.”

This week, Pritzker warned that Trump was planning to send the National Guard to cities like Chicago, as he has done with other Democratic-led cities, including Los Angeles and Washington.

Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson responded to Trump’s potential actions by signing an executive order outlining how the city would react to any federal intervention.

“Chicago will do everything possible to safeguard our democracy and our communities. With this executive order, we are sending a clear message to the federal government: we will not allow unconstitutional and illegal military occupation in our cities,” Johnson remarked.

Earlier this month, Trump celebrated a decrease in crime in Washington, D.C., following a federal takeover. “D.C. has been crime-free for 14 days. The residents are ecstatic!!! President DJT,” he declared.
