Trump advises Zelenskyy to refrain from attacking Russian diesel refineries

Former President Donald Trump has shared a direct message for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding Ukraine’s ongoing military actions against Russia, specifically advising him to refrain from targeting Russian diesel refineries. Trump made these comments during a recent event at his golf club in Doonbeg, Ireland, where he responded to a reporter’s question about whether he had communicated with Zelenskyy since his discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Zelensky has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia,” Trump stated. He indicated that while Ukraine can pursue other targets in Russia, diesel infrastructure should be off-limits. “Let him go after targets, but not diesel fuel because he’s causing a shortage of diesel,” he explained, adding that this situation stems not from the Middle East, but from the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump mentioned having addressed this issue directly with Zelenskyy, suggesting there are many other potential targets for Ukraine to focus on. He expressed concern that hitting diesel refineries was detrimental not only to Russia but also harmful globally: “Don’t hit diesel fuel because that’s hurting the world. We don’t want him to hit diesel fuel.” Trump’s comments come against the backdrop of Ukraine’s strategic strikes aimed at crippling Russia’s oil and gas capabilities, which have significant funding implications for Russia’s military endeavors. Since the full-scale invasion by Russia over four years ago, these military operations have escalated.

The situation has led to a tightening of fuel supplies in Russia, with some regions having to ration fuel and the country implementing a ban on diesel exports earlier this summer. This disruption has subsequently put added pressure on global diesel supplies, particularly in light of decreased oil shipments through vital routes like the Strait of Hormuz. Recently, diesel prices in the United States hit an average of over $6 per gallon, marking a historic high.

As the conflict intensifies, Russia has ramped up its aerial assaults on Ukraine, deploying ballistic missiles and drones. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues its offensive operations targeting areas within Russia. Reports indicate recent significant drone attacks launched by both sides, resulting in casualties. The ongoing clash highlights a complex and ever-evolving situation.
