Trump agrees to debate Kamala Harris on Fox News

Former President Trump announced Friday night that he had agreed to a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris proposed by Fox News.

Trump said the debate will take place in Pennsylvania on September 4, but the location has not yet been decided.

The former president also addressed the cancellation of an ABC News debate that was scheduled before President Biden suspended his reelection campaign, citing a lawsuit against the network and one of its hosts, George Stephanopoulos.

“I have agreed with Fox News to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. “The debate was previously scheduled with Sleepy Joe Biden on ABC, but has been canceled due to Biden no longer participating and my ongoing litigation against the ABC network and George Slopadopolos creating a conflict of interest.”

The debate will be moderated by Fox News hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.

The rules for the debate will be similar to those for the June 27 CNN debate with Biden, in which Trump wrote that Biden has been “treated badly by his party.” But unlike the CNN debate, which was held without an audience, the Fox News debate will have an audience.

Fox News had invited Trump and Harris to debate in Pennsylvania on September 17.

Harris said last month that she was “ready” to debate the former president, accusing him of backing away from an earlier agreement to debate him on ABC News on Sept. 10.

This comes after Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee after Biden announced he was dropping out of his reelection campaign.

Trump had previously said he would not debate Harris because she is not the party’s official candidate since Biden dropped out of the race, but on Friday the vice president secured enough delegates to become the party’s official nominee.

“As we all know, the Democrats unconstitutionally elected a candidate who was found defeated and then unceremoniously replaced him with a new candidate,” Trump wrote. “This is unprecedented and a threat to our democracy, but I fully accept the outcome of this ‘coup’ and am prepared to replace Joe with crazy Kamala Harris on the debate stage.”

“I spent hundreds of millions of dollars, time and effort fighting Joe, won the debate, and now they’ve thrown a new candidate into the ring! It’s not fair, but it is what it is!,” he continued. “But different candidates, their bad policies are the same and this will be made abundantly clear at the September 4th debate. I look forward to meeting and debating Kamala Harris on September 4th, a date convenient and appropriate in that it occurs just before early voting for the 2024 Presidential Election begins on September 6th. I look forward to seeing you all in Pennsylvania on September 4th!”

Trump also survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
