The sincere conversation between Trump and Zelensky became controversial when Vice President Vance and the Ukrainian leaders discussed diplomacy and erupted in Zelensky's debate over US support, and when Trump called foreign leaders “disrespectful” and said they were “not ready for peace.”
Collins, who was in the oval office during the exchange, told CNN's Dana Bash, “The Ukrainian ambassador buried her head in her hand as this screaming match was happening between the three of them.”
“Tell me about her worst nightmare. She literally watched it unfold in her oval office right in front of her eyes,” commented Bash.
Collins said there was a moment when Zelensky tried to fix Trump when the president made misleading claims about the Ukraine-Russia conflict. “All of his diplomacy with Trump is personal,” she said.
She added that other world leaders tried to “flat” “trump” to get what they wanted, but Zelensky made his opinion simple and spoke about “earthly reality.”
