Trump Uncertain About Attending Son’s Wedding Due to Security Concerns
President Donald Trump has expressed doubt about attending his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding, citing increased security risks following recent threats. During a conversation on Thursday, he mentioned that while his son wants him there, the event is planned to be a small, private gathering.
“He’d like me to go,” Trump said regarding Don Jr. “But it’s going to be just a small, little private affair. I’m gonna try and make it.”
He added, “I said, ‘You know this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things.’”
Donald Trump Jr., who is 48, and Bettina Anderson, a 39-year-old socialite from Palm Beach, are set to marry over Memorial Day weekend on a private island in the Bahamas. The couple has chosen to forgo their originally planned extravagant wedding at the White House due to political and security issues.
Insiders have suggested that having a high-profile ceremony at the White House seemed “inappropriate” amid rising tensions with Iran, and after a recent shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, concerns grew that a large public event might attract further threats.
“That’s one I can’t win on,” Trump remarked. “If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed—by the fake news, of course.”
Despite the uncertainties, he conveyed hopes for a happy marriage for the couple.
Don Jr. and Bettina first announced their engagement during a holiday event at the White House on December 15, 2025, after they were introduced by the President himself.
“I’m not usually at a loss for words, because I’m usually doing the ranting and raving really well,” Don Jr. said to the guests. “I want to thank Bettina for that one word: ‘Yes.’”
Anderson added, “This has been the most unforgettable weekend. I get to marry the love of my life, and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Thank you.”
Since late 2024, Don Jr. and Anderson have been in a relationship following his split from former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle. However, the timing of their wedding comes during a tough period for the family, particularly in light of ex-wife Vanessa Trump’s recent announcement regarding her breast cancer diagnosis.
“I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “While this isn’t news anyone expects, I’m working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan.”
