Trump Aims to Control Every Branch of Government

Lawrence Tribe, a professor emeritus at Harvard University, expressed his views on CNN’s “lead” on Monday, asserting that President Donald Trump seems poised to consolidate power across all branches of the government.

During the segment, host Jake Tapper raised a question about President Trump’s apparent confusion regarding his obligations under the US Constitution, particularly concerning the rights of undocumented immigrants like Garcia.

Tribe remarked that confusion isn’t really an option here. One doesn’t need to be a lawyer; it’s just about reading the Constitution. It clearly states that everyone is entitled to due process and that all state and federal officials are obligated to uphold the Constitution. It’s quite straightforward. Trump swore an oath to protect it, yet he claims uncertainty about whether he must support it. This is not only absurd but dangerous, as it suggests a normalization of being above the law—though no one truly is, in this country.

He continued by stating, “He can’t assume the roles of judge, jury, and executioner simultaneously. Trump is attempting to centralize the power of all government branches, including the judiciary.”
