Trump alleges mortgage fraud against Schiff in strong criticism of his long-time opponent

Trump’s Accusations Against Senator Schiff

On Tuesday morning, former President Donald Trump launched a sharp attack on California Senator Adam Schiff, claiming he has committed mortgage fraud over the past decade by misrepresenting his primary residence.

In a post on social media, Trump referred to Schiff as a “fraud artist.” He alleged that Schiff secured a mortgage for his Maryland home in 2009, but later, in 2020, listed it as a secondary residence to obtain better mortgage terms from financial institutions that had been stable since the 2008 economic downturn.

Trump asserted that the financial crimes division of Fannie Mae has uncovered evidence of this alleged fraud. He noted that Schiff was a House member when he acquired the Maryland property and later became a senator. Schiff dismissed Trump’s claims as “baseless.”

Trump stated, “I have always suspected that Shifty Adam Schiff is a fraudster. Now I know that Fannie Mae’s financial crimes division concludes he has been engaged in a persistent pattern of possible mortgage fraud.” He insisted Schiff misrepresented his primary residence to benefit financially.

In response to inquiries about his earlier claims, Trump appeared to soften his stance, saying, “If that happens, I don’t know about the individual claims, but Adam Schiff is a serious, low-living creature.” There was also a mention of Schiff expressing interest in a trial, to which Trump responded with skepticism.

Moreover, it was pointed out that Schiff had not done anything unconstitutional by listing his Maryland property as his main residence during his congressional term. In fact, he had declared both California and Maryland homes as major residences for various mortgages and election filings dating back to 2003.

Reports suggest multiple instances of refinancing his Maryland home while simultaneously claiming a California condo as his primary residence in different financial documents. Schiff’s situation came to light thanks to Christine Bisch, a real estate investigator who ran for Congress last year and subsequently filed an ethical complaint against him.

Schiff described Trump’s accusations as politically motivated retaliation against him. A spokesperson clarified that both of Schiff’s homes had been consistently used throughout the year and that he had maintained transparency regarding their designation.

This verbal clash between Trump and Schiff is merely one episode in their ongoing tensions, which have persisted since Trump took office. Schiff previously led investigations regarding Trump’s alleged ties with Russia during the 2016 election and served as a prominent figure during Trump’s impeachment proceedings.
