Trump Accuses Biden Administration of Weaponizing Justice Department

President Trump has made strong claims that the Biden administration has politicized the Justice Department in an effort to silence figures like Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA.

He expressed criticism toward Jack Smith, the Special Counsel who managed Trump’s legal challenges before stepping down in January, as well as what he described as the “corrupted and incompetent Biden administration,” which he alleged aimed to undermine the conservative nonprofit organization.

“They tried to shut down Charlie and others,” Trump stated on his social media account. “They weaponized the Justice Department against sleepy Joe Biden’s political adversaries, including me!”

On the same day, it was revealed that the FBI had summoned multiple Republican-affiliated groups as part of their investigation into Kirk’s organization, shortly after Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley disclosed relevant documents.

“Some examples of organizations mentioned include the Republican National Committee and Trump’s political groups,” Grassley noted.

“This political targeting includes Turning Point USA, which is closely associated with Charlie Kirk,” he added.

The FBI’s investigation, dubbed “Arctic Frost,” began in 2022 and was later transferred to Smith.

This inquiry examined allegations surrounding false claims of election fraud, misleading legal strategies, financial irregularities, and attempts to pressure state officials to alter vote counts.

Furthermore, the FBI probed potential crimes linked to events surrounding January 6, 2021, when the Capitol was stormed, disrupting the certification of Biden’s victory.

Though Smith’s charges weren’t set for trial until November 2024, they eventually fell through.

Turning Point USA was among the conservative entities scrutinized, but the specifics of the investigation remain unclear.

Kirk has echoed Trump’s concerns regarding issues with mail-in voting from the 2020 election.

Founded by Kirk in 2012, Turning Point USA has seen a surge in interest, with over 37,000 requests for new chapters following the tragedies involving two figures associated with the organization.

Kirk’s widow, Erika, received praise for rallying support after their emotional public appeal on September 12.

Before her call to action, TPUSA already had around 9,000 university affiliates and 1,100 high school branches.

Kirk, aged 31, was tragically killed during a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University on September 10.

The suspected assailant, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was reported to have an “obsession” with Kirk.

Robinson appeared in a virtual court hearing, showing an emotional demeanor, while facing serious charges including aggravated murder and firearm-related offenses.

Prosecutors have indicated their intention to pursue the death penalty in this case.

In the wake of Kirk’s assassination, Vice President JD Vance and White House official Stephen Miller pledged to intensify law enforcement efforts against left-wing groups accused of promoting violence.
