Trump and His Toadies ‘Trying to Do Revisionist History on January 6’

Following the newly surfaced video of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) acknowledging that she should have called in the National Guard to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the former House speaker said on MSNBC’s “Deadline” on Monday that former President Donald Trump and his “cronies” are attempting revisionist history about the events at the U.S. Capitol that day.

“The truth is that the president of the United States, the former president and his cronies don’t want to face the facts. They’re trying to engage in historical revisionism on January 6th, but we cannot allow ourselves to be drawn back into their false impression of what happened that day. They know what happened that day, they know the seriousness of it and the impact it had, and continues to have, on our country. And yet they want to call the people who were there hostages. Last night I was awarded the Lincoln Award, which I am very proud to receive. And in my speech I said that Lincoln built the Capitol dome. He insisted on building the dome during the Civil War to demonstrate American resilience.”

She continued, “And it was truly disgraceful to see people coming into the Capitol under the Lincoln Dome waving Confederate flags and Nazi flags, committing vile acts and despicable behavior. And yet this president, this former president, who incited this riot, didn’t send in the National Guard for hours. People were hurt. People were killed, people died in some way. And he just tried to deny that any of that happened. This is terrible. But let’s not let this distract us from what we need to do to move forward. We have to unify our country. We have to unite our people in a way that honors the vision of our Founding Fathers. In a way that honors the sacrifices of our service members and the hopes of our children.”
