President Trump Hosts Chinese Leaders for State Dinner

Nearing the conclusion of a three-day visit, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuan, for an extravagant state dinner at the White House on Thursday evening.

This grand event was a highlight of President Xi’s official visit to the United States. Earlier that day, they discussed important bilateral issues in the Oval Office. The evening served to showcase both warmth and a sense of personal connection amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

The night’s menu, personally curated by the First Lady, featured autumn-inspired dishes beginning with a first course of yellow squash velouté, wild mushrooms, fresh herbs, crispy pancetta, and a drizzle of scallion oil.

The main course included sesame-crusted sea bass served with braised baby bok choy, roasted garden eggplant, and sauce verte. The dining area was beautifully decorated with intricate floral arrangements, creating a refined atmosphere as both leaders offered speeches and toasts.

In his speech, President Trump spoke about the historical links and shared responsibilities between the two nations, aiming to foster a spirit of cooperation. He also presented President Xi with a decorative bald eagle statue.

The guest list read like a who’s who of global industry, underscoring the strategic discussions central to U.S.-China relations. Seated alongside the heads of state and their spouses were influential figures from the corporate world, including Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Apple’s Tim Cook.

Other prominent attendees included Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell, and key financial leaders like Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser and Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon. Their presence highlighted the focus of the earlier policy discussions on AI governance, trade tariffs, and global rare-earth mineral supply chains.

While such formal visits often receive extensive media coverage, this dinner saw limited access due to ongoing disagreements about media arrangements. Nevertheless, it was one of the most significant international diplomatic events at the White House, setting up the scene for the final day of President Xi’s visit.

During a toast, President Trump expressed hopes for a future of harmony and success for both nations. In turn, President Xi noted Trump’s commitment to revitalizing America, emphasizing collaborative ambitions moving forward.
