Trump announces Rudy Giuliani will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Trump Awards Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is set to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, as announced by President Donald Trump.

This news came just a day after Giuliani sustained serious injuries in a car accident while helping a domestic violence victim. Trump stated, “As president of the United States, we are pleased to announce that a great American patriot, as well as Rudy Giuliani,” will be honored with the highest civilian award.

Giuliani had been driving a rental Ford Bronco when, according to New Hampshire State Police, a Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old hit them from behind late Saturday night.

Before the accident, Giuliani had been flagged down by a woman needing assistance. He promptly called 911 for help. Following the incident, he re-entered his vehicle shortly before the collision occurred.

“The mayor has a great spirit. He’s, um, quite resilient. Remember, he survived 9/11,” said a spokesperson. The spokesperson also clarified that this incident wasn’t a targeted attack, and Giuliani is expected to stay in the hospital for a few days during his recovery from injuries, including a broken spine.

Giuliani gained prominence as a federal prosecutor in the ’70s and ’80s, making headlines for indicting major organized crime families in New York. He was notably one of the first prosecutors to utilize the RICO law, which allowed him to target entire criminal organizations instead of just individual members.

After serving two terms as mayor, Giuliani ran for president in 2008 and later became a close advisor to Trump during his first term. It looks like this recognition will add another chapter to his, um, already eventful biography.
