Trump Appoints Sergio Gaul as Ambassador to India

On Friday, President Trump appointed his top aide, Sergio Gaul, as the next U.S. ambassador to India and envoy for South and Central Asia. He expressed a desire for someone he could “trust in this role.”

“I am excited to announce that Sergio Gaul will be serving as our ambassador to the Republic of India and will focus on South and Central Asia issues,” Trump stated.

Trump applauded Gaul’s influence within the White House, particularly in the presidential office. He noted Gaul’s significant role in rebuilding the federal government with loyal aides.

“Sergio is a good friend who has stood by me for many years. He assisted in my historic presidential campaign, helped publish my bestselling books, and ran one of the largest super PACs supporting our movement,” Trump remarked.

He commended Gaul for his dedication and loyalty to the administration.

“Sergio’s role has been crucial in executing the unprecedented mandate given to us by the American people. Given that this is the most populous region in the world, it’s essential that I have someone I can completely rely on to promote my agenda and help us in making America great again!” Trump added.

India, meanwhile, has been focused on Trump’s trade initiatives, especially as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has faced criticism for purchasing Russian oil amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Modi was one of the first international leaders to visit the White House during Trump’s second term. However, Trump has since raised concerns about trade imbalances with the U.S. and India’s economic connections with Russia.

Trump’s visit to India is scheduled for August 27th, which will address a 25% penalty on oil purchases from Russia.
