Trump Responds to Cohen’s Recantation

Former President Donald Trump expressed gratitude towards his ex-personal attorney, Michael Cohen, for “having the Wisdom and Courage to step forward” and change his earlier testimony in relation to the cases brought against Trump by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump remarked that Cohen’s decision was a “Act of Bravery” which reflects positively on the justice system in both New York City and the state. He highlighted that Cohen had stated everything done by James and Bragg was “WRONG and UNLAWFUL.”

Trump stated, “I am pleased to report that Michael Cohen, the Prosecution’s Star Witness and, in actuality, only Witness in the New York State Attorney General and Manhattan DA Witch Hunt Cases brought against me, has just fully RECANTED his testimony.” He further claimed that Cohen was “pressured” and “coerced” into making false statements.

He added, “I would like to thank Michael for having the Wisdom and Courage to step forward and do the right thing! His Act of Bravery is a Great Credit to the Justice System in New York City and State. I am sure it was not easy for him!”

Moreover, Trump requested that any remaining aspects of what he termed “Politically Weaponized Cases” against him be promptly terminated and dismissed, pointing out that their main witness acknowledged the wrongdoing of the cases.

In a January Substack article, Cohen accused Bragg and James of coercing him amidst their investigations into Trump.

At that time, as reported by Breitbart News, Cohen mentioned in his article that “a federal appeals court” had renewed “Trump’s effort to undo” his conviction from May 2024, which stemmed from his trial concerning business records.

Cohen had disclosed in his Substack writing that “a federal appeals court” was looking into “Trump’s effort to undo” his conviction related to falsifying business records, after a jury found him guilty on 34 counts linked to payments made via Cohen to adult actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Additionally, he noted that a lower court was instructed “to reconsider whether the case belongs in state court or should be moved to federal court.”

Cohen reflected on his earlier experiences, stating, “From the time I first began meeting with lawyers from the Manhattan DA’s Office and the New York Attorney General’s Office in connection with their investigations of President Trump, and through the trials themselves, I felt pressured and coerced to only provide information and testimony that would satisfy the government’s desire to build the cases against and secure a judgement and convictions against President Trump.”
