Trump Warns Iran’s Leader Amid Rising Tensions

President Donald Trump has suggested that Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, ought to be “very concerned” given the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

During an interview with NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Lamas, Trump addressed the credibility concerns surrounding his threats towards Khamenei and the Iranian regime over the deaths of numerous protesters.

When asked if Khamenei should indeed be worried, Trump affirmed, “I would say he should be very concerned. Yes, he should be. You know, they’re negotiating with us.”

Interestingly, Lamas brought up feedback from protesters in Iran, who seemed to express disappointment, asking, “Where are the Americans? We promised to support them. Are we still supporting them?”

In response, Trump reflected on U.S. involvement, saying, “We supported them. That country is now in a mess because of us. We intervened and wiped out their core.” He emphasized the potential consequences of not intervening in Iran’s nuclear ambitions and asserted, “If we didn’t get rid of the nuclear weapons, there would be no peace in the Middle East… They’re not afraid of Iran anymore.” This implies a notable shift in the balance of power, or, at least, perception.

Additionally, Trump made clear the U.S. stance on halting Iran’s nuclear enrichment and warned of an “immediate” military strike if Iran disregards the warning. “They tried to go back to the site. They couldn’t even get close. They were completely obliterated… If you do that, we’re going to do something to you,” he added, suggesting serious repercussions for any further attempts by Iran.

Parts of the interview will continue to air, with another segment expected in the lead-up to the Super Bowl.
