Trump at House GOP retreat: ‘If Republicans lose the midterms, Democrats will look for a reason to impeach me again’

Trump Warns of Impeachment Risks in 2026

During a recent gathering with House Republicans, President Donald Trump conveyed his concerns about a potential third impeachment if the party doesn’t succeed in the 2026 midterm elections. He urged lawmakers to secure a strong outcome this November to prevent what he described as a Democratic overreach and to uphold “America First” policies.

“We have to win the midterm elections, because if we don’t win the midterm elections, they’re just going to find a reason to impeach me,” Trump remarked at a policy roundtable. “I will be impeached.”

“We don’t impeach them. You know why? Because they’re meaner than us. We should have impeached Joe Biden on 100 different things,” he added.

At the Trump Kennedy Center, Trump emphasized the significance of the midterms, which will determine if Republicans can keep their majority in Congress. This election involves the entire House of Representatives and roughly one-third of the Senate.

Trump’s history of impeachment includes two instances during his first term. Each time, the House of Representatives, under Democratic control, voted to impeach him, but the Senate acquitted him, allowing him to remain in office. His first impeachment in 2019 centered on allegations of pressuring Ukraine regarding Joe Biden, while the second in 2021 was connected to the January 6 Capitol protests. Trump asserts his innocence in both cases, labeling the processes as partisan attacks aimed at undermining his presidency.

Meanwhile, at a rally on the same day, Trump expressed confidence that several unpopular Democratic policies could play in Republicans’ favor. He pointed out that these policies aren’t resonating well with most American voters.

“But when they want open borders, when they want men in women’s sports like they said, when they want transgender [policies]… Trump remarked, impersonating a fictitious Democratic official: ‘Bring me your kids and we’ll change the gender of your kids.’

“We have some great, solid, common-sense policies,” he continued. “They are [Democrats] They have terrible policies. What they do is they cling to each other. They never get a downvote.”

Additionally, Trump vowed to leverage his victory against the pharmaceutical industry from 2025 to push for lower healthcare premiums for American families. He’s labeled industry executives as “fat cats” profiting excessively, reiterating his plan to direct those funds to consumers instead.

Trump stated, “I don’t want the money to go to the big guys and the insurance companies that have made 1,700 percent more money in such a short period of time. I want the money to go directly to places where people can buy their own health insurance.” He added, “You’re not taking money from the insurance companies. The insurance companies are taking it.”

“I’ll meet them in a few days,” he mentioned, referring to discussions with U.S. health insurance companies.

In light of recent events, Trump also informed House Republicans that he’s preparing to meet with major oil executives to discuss restarting drilling in Venezuela, following the detention of dictator Nicolas Maduro. He plans to utilize Venezuela’s oil reserves to provide for the market, which he insists will lower oil prices for U.S. consumers.

“I’m also in talks with oil companies… There’s a lot of oil to drill and oil prices will fall further,” he said.

A meeting with executives from ExxonMobil, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips is set for later this week at the White House.

If Congressional Democrats regain control in 2027, they are expected to investigate the Trump administration for any potential wrongdoing as well as the president’s business dealings. Following military actions in Venezuela, Rep. Maxine Waters has suggested that those acts could form the basis for impeachment.

“Today, many Democrats are understandably questioning whether another impeachment is possible under current political realities,” she stated. “I’m reconsidering that view. Even if Republicans refuse to act, Democrats cannot remain silent or passive in the face of such extreme actions from this administration.”
