Trump Attack on GA Gov. Kemp ‘Juvenile’

Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-New Jersey) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that former President Donald Trump’s criticism of Gov. Brian Kemp (R-Ga.) is “childish.”

“It’s inconceivable that anyone who knows anything about politics would say, ‘Here’s an idea: Actually question whether Kamala Harris is really black.’ This is reality, and you can see this race is changing, because as soon as Donald Trump feels he’s in the lead, and he’s comfortably ahead, he’s going to follow traditional wise political advice. As soon as it’s close, he goes back to his best hits. At the national convention, when he thought he wasn’t getting the reaction he wanted from the beginning of his speech, he went back to his best hits. You saw it at NABJ and you saw it last night in Atlanta,” Christie said.

“He’s attacking the Republican governor,” host George Stephanopoulos said.

Christie said, “That’s right. Brian Kemp, who has been attacked relentlessly since 2020, ran a primary candidate against Trump who garnered 70% of the vote against him and defeated the candidate endorsed by Trump. This is a man who won in a big way in 2022, including in Georgia, when many Republican candidates were losing, and it’s foolish to attack Kemp. This is what George is like. This is a personal issue. He’s childish. And that’s why he will continue to attack not only Brian Kemp, but the women of Georgia. The people of Georgia should have heard loud and clear last night. He attacked the First Lady, Marty Kemp, just as hard as he attacked the governor. That’s the biggest blow. He’ll be back at it again.”
