Trump attorney Will Scharf says he's 'considering all options' to appeal conviction

Former President Trump’s lawyer, Will Scharf, said Thursday that the former president’s legal team is “considering all options” in appealing the hush-money conviction.

“This case is riddled with reversible error, going back to day one, to the jury instructions. Every aspect of this case is ready for appeal. We will appeal as soon as possible. We will seek an expedited review of this case,” Scharf told Fox News.

“And we trust that the New York Court of Appeals understands the Pandora’s box of danger that this lawless sentence has opened, and the impact this unjust sentence could have on our justice system if allowed to stand,” Schaaf added.

In Thursday’s historic verdict, President Trump was found guilty on all 34 charges of falsifying business records in New York state, making him the first former U.S. president to be convicted of a crime.

Asked whether he might appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, Scharf said “all options are on the table.”

“And we are actively exploring all options that could potentially bring justice to President Trump, because justice has not been served in this New York courtroom today,” Schaaf added.

The former president is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, just four days before the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this summer. He could face prison time, although first-time offenders for crimes like Trump’s are rarely jailed.

Shortly after the guilty verdict, President Trump called the case a “rigged and disgraceful trial.”

“The real verdict will be made by the American people on November 5th. They know what happened here, everyone knows what happened here,” Trump said, positioning himself as the victim.

The former president also faces additional criminal cases in Washington, D.C., Georgia and Florida, none of which are scheduled to go to trial before Election Day.

Schaaf, who is also a Republican candidate for Missouri attorney general, told Fox News that Trump was an “optimist” and had poured cold water on him, saying the ruling affected him too much.

“I believe President Trump will take this country back next November. The American people have finally had their say and they want him back in the White House and to make this country great again,” he said.

“I don’t think this is actually going to have that much of an impact on him because he knows he has the American people on his side,” he continued.
