A Republican incumbent backed by former President Trump survived a challenge from the right in a deep-red congressional district in upstate New York.
Congresswoman Claudia Tenney defeated lawyer and businessman Mario Fratto in the Republican primary for New York’s 24th Congressional District. Tenney held a lead of approximately XX% at the time the Associated Press announced the election results.
Throughout the campaign, Fratto called Tenney a “RINO” (Republican in name only) and accused her of not being conservative enough on a range of issues, while Tenney tried to portray her as an anti-Semite and an extremist.

This is the second time Tenney and Fratto have faced off in the district’s Republican primary. When they faced off in 2022, Tenney won just under 54% of the vote to Fratto’s 40%.
A win for Tenney would mean she is guaranteed a fourth term in the House, given the conservative leanings of her district.

She was first elected to represent New York’s 22nd Congressional District in 2016, but narrowly lost reelection in 2018, a tough year for Republicans. She was re-elected again to represent the 22nd Congressional District in 2020, but after statewide redistricting, she ran for and won the 24th Congressional District in 2022.
Election analysts are rating the race as “certain” or “safe” for the Republicans.
