Former President Donald Trump is pushing for Roger Clemens, the ex-New York Yankees star, to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Trump highlighted Clemens’ impressive career stats and insisted that the celebrated pitcher has never used performance-enhancing drugs. Clemens himself has denied any involvement with steroids during his time in Major League Baseball.
In Trump’s words, “I hope Major League Baseball is ready to put Roger Clemens in the Hall of Fame. It’s where he has belonged for many years! I’ve never taken any drugs, and there’s no evidence to suggest he did either. I think he’s considering a substantial lawsuit against MLB. If I were him, I would do the same.”
He drew a comparison to Pete Rose, who, like Clemens, faced exclusion from MLB despite significant achievements. After Rose’s passing, the MLB removed him from their ineligible list. Trump expressed concern that time might run out for Clemens before he receives a fair evaluation from the league.
Fox News Digital reached out to both MLB and the Baseball Hall of Fame for comments but has yet to receive a response.
Trump had recently spent time golfing with Clemens, who appreciated Trump’s ongoing support. Clemens stated, “I appreciate love! DT knows the fake news more than anyone else. Everyone has their agenda… I played the game to build for my family and to win!”
Clemens, a two-time World Series champion and 11-time All-Star, has a career strikeout total of 4,672. His history is marred by accusations of steroid use, detailed in a report by Mitchell. Although he was acquitted of lying to Congress in 2012, the steroid allegations have cast a long shadow over his Hall of Fame candidacy.
To be inducted into Cooperstown, Clemens needs to secure 70% of the votes from baseball writers, but he only garnered 61.6%. His path to the Hall may now depend on the decision of today’s Game Committee.
