President Donald Trump has voiced his support for Clay Fuller, a prosecutor and National Guardsman, as he seeks to fill the vacancy in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District left by former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resignation last month.
In an announcement shared on Truth Social, Trump referred to Fuller as “America’s first patriot.” He praised Fuller’s background, highlighting his role as District Attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit and his service as an officer in the Air National Guard. Trump emphasized that Fuller understands the dedication required to protect the nation and support military personnel and veterans while ensuring strength through unity.
“As Congressman-elect, Clay will work tirelessly to stimulate the economy, reduce taxes and regulations, promote American manufacturing, enhance energy independence, secure borders, combat immigration-related crime, protect election integrity, advocate for school choice, and uphold the Second Amendment, which is perpetually under threat,” Trump added.
Currently, Fuller serves as the District Attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit in northwest Georgia. His campaign website presents him as “the region’s top prosecutor,” noting his record in handling serious criminal cases including murder, rape, and armed robbery, leading to significant convictions. He also has experience arguing cases before the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.
In addition to his legal career, Fuller has had a notable military background, serving as a lieutenant colonel and deputy staff judge advocate in the Air National Guard, where he received accolades, including the Air Force Commendation and Distinguished Service Medal.
Fuller, who was a White House fellow appointed by President Trump in 2018, contributed to national security policy, counterterrorism strategies, and addressing the opioid crisis during his time in the Vice President’s Office and the Department of Defense. His military service also includes a deployment to the Middle East in 2024, supporting U.S. Central Command operations as general counsel.
In a related note, Trump had previously distanced himself from Greene, referencing her complaints about his endorsement prior to her announcement of resignation. Polls suggested she felt her support was lacking, which Greene discussed in an interview, where she criticized Trump for his focus on domestic policies and accused him of inciting threats against her. Trump countered her comments by stating that Greene did not align with “America First or MAGA” principles.
