REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – President Biden and former President Trump met Saturday night following a shooting at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania that left Trump grazed by a bullet.
A White House official said Biden spoke with Trump just before he left Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where the president is staying on Saturday, for an unscheduled return to the White House.
Biden mentioned Trump and the shooting in his remarks Saturday evening, saying he has attempted to reach out to Trump and would like to speak with the former president.
The president also met with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (Democrat) and Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy, according to a White House official.
“There is no place in America for this kind of violence,” Biden told reporters in Rehoboth. “Everyone must condemn this.”
After his speech, he was briefed again by U.S. Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Homeland Security Advisor Liz Sherwood Randall, Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
Trump had only been onstage for a short time at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when shots rang out around 6:15 p.m. ET and Secret Service agents gathered on the stage to protect him. Trump was bleeding from his ears and had some blood on his face.
Trump later said the bullet grazed his right ear.
