Chinese President Xi Jinping Concludes State Visit to Washington, D.C.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, accompanied by his wife, Madam Peng Liyuan, has left Washington, D.C., wrapping up a three-day state visit hosted by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

“President Xi and Madam Peng have just left D.C., heading for China,” Trump shared on Truth Social. “The meeting was one of Friendship, Strength, and Success, for both China and the U.S.A. We will be meeting again in November, in China, and then at the G20 in December, in Miami, Florida. Much has been, and will be, accomplished. I look forward to our next meeting!”

The state visit kicked off on Wednesday when Trump and Melania welcomed the Chinese leaders at Joint Base Andrews. In a break from the usual protocol where foreign leaders are often received at the White House, Trump greeted them directly on the tarmac.

On Thursday night, both presidents participated in a grand state dinner in the East Room of the White House following extensive discussions.

As the visit drew to a close on Friday morning, the first ladies gathered for a casual tea reception in the historic Red Room of the White House before the official bilateral discussions commenced.

The visit concluded with a tour of the National Archives, where historical documents, including the Bill of Rights, were on display.

While examining these artifacts, reporters inquired about the outcomes of Trump’s talks with Xi. Trump’s response was somewhat vague but optimistic: “Oh, everything. We had a great meeting. We had a really great meeting, great for everybody. Great for the farmers, great for everybody,” although he did not elaborate on specifics.

In the coming months, Trump is expected to meet Xi again during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in Shenzhen, China, scheduled for November 18th to November 19th. Additionally, the U.S. will host the G20 meeting in Miami from December 14th to December 15th.
