Trump calls EU ‘nasty’ while sitting alongside NATO secretary

On Thursday, President Trump called the European Union “trouble” while sitting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Latte.

Trump complained about the sudden tariffs on US-made cars in Europe and the European Union's court of judgment in September.

“We don't sell cars to Europe, meaning there are virtually no cars. They sell us millions of cars. They don't take our farming. We take their farming – it's like a one-way street with them. The European Union is very troublesome,” Trump said in his oval office.

The president continued. “They sued our company. Apple was forced to pay $16 billion for the case, like my case I won. They should have been cases, but we felt they had no cases and they had a very favorable judge and decision. But they're suing Google, they're suing Facebook, they're suing all these companies, they're removing billions of dollars from American companies.”

Trump opposed the EU early on Thursday, threatening to put heavy tariffs from Europe on wine, champagne and other alcohol if it doesn't remove tariffs on whiskey.

The trade war with Europe escalated on Wednesday when Trump's 25% tariffs came into effect on steel and aluminum, prompting the EU to retaliate quickly with a two-stage approach.

The 27-national European Trade Bloc said on April 1 it would allow the existing 2018 and 2020 US suspensions to expire.
