Trump Calls for Ending ‘Resistance’ in Minnesota

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt conveyed to reporters on Monday, following a conversation with President Donald Trump and Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, that Trump is seeking an immediate conclusion to what he termed the “resistance and chaos” in the state.

During a press briefing, Levitt accused Minnesota’s Democratic leadership of “actively defying federal immigration law” through their sanctuary city policies. She outlined Trump’s demands along with a four-point plan intended to restore “law and order” in Minnesota.

Levitt remarked, “Due to this… defiance, two Minnesotans are now tragically losing their lives on the streets of Tim Walz,” referencing the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Preti.

She stated, “It is President Trump’s hope, desire, and request that resistance and chaos end today.” This was in the context of Trump directly discussing the situation with Governor Walz and providing a straightforward approach to reestablish law and order in Minnesota.

The first point of Trump’s proposal is for Governor Walz, Mayor Frey, and other Democratic leaders to hand over all undocumented immigrants in local jails or those with arrest warrants to federal authorities for quick deportation, according to Levitt.

Next, Levitt highlighted Trump’s insistence that local governments transfer any illegal aliens in custody to federal authorities. The third aspect stressed the necessity for local police to collaborate with federal entities to detain undocumented immigrants with violent crime charges.

She further mentioned that if Walz and Frey implemented “these common-sense cooperative measures,” support from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Minnesota would no longer be necessary.

“ICE and local law enforcement can collaborate effectively, as observed in many states and areas,” she added.

Moreover, Trump is urging Congress to legislate against sanctuary cities.

Levitt expressed, “America’s cities should be safe sanctuaries only for law-abiding citizens, not for dangerous illegal alien criminals.”

The four points detailed by Levitt align with those Trump shared in a post on Truth Social the previous night.

“I hope that Governor Walz will adhere to this morning’s guidance and continue to partner with President Trump for the safety of the American people,” she said. “Americans overwhelmingly favor what President Trump offers: secure borders and stringent immigration enforcement, aiming to deport numerous illegal aliens from the country.”

Before the press conference, President Trump disclosed that Walz had reached out for “cooperation.”

“Governor Tim Walz called me regarding Minnesota. It was a productive call, and we seemed to share a common understanding. I advised him to contact Tom Homan about identifying any criminals they might have. The governor has been respectful and accommodating, and I look forward to speaking with him again. He was pleased that Tom Homan would be coming to Minnesota, which I also view positively. We’ve had substantial success in various cities, including Washington, DC, and Memphis, Tennessee, and want to make a difference in Minnesota as well,” President Trump stated.

According to reports, Walz’s office asserted that President Trump “agreed to reduce the number of federal agents in Minnesota and consider a more coordinated approach with states on targeting violent criminals regarding immigration enforcement.”
