Trump Calls for ‘Immediate Ceasefire’ in Ukraine After Talks with Zelensky

President-elect Donald Trump has called for an “immediate ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine so that peace talks can begin, arguing that both sides would benefit from ending the war.

After meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris, as the two leaders attended a ceremony to reopen Notre Dame Cathedral, President Trump told Truth Social: “Zelensky and Ukraine want to make a deal and stop the madness.'' I'm thinking about it,” he wrote.

Even though his inauguration is more than a month away, the president-elect continues to make aggressive diplomatic efforts to fulfill his pledge to end the Ukraine war, which is soon to mark its third anniversary.

“There should be an immediate cease-fire and negotiations should begin. Too many lives have been needlessly wasted, too many families have been destroyed, and if this situation continues, it will only lead to something bigger and worse.” “There is a possibility that it will develop,” Trump said. I wrote on his social media platforms.

The president-elect argued that both sides of the bloody conflict would benefit from an end to the fighting, saying “600,000 Russian soldiers have been injured or killed in a war that should never have started and could last forever.” “I did,” he pointed out. Regarding Ukraine, Trump said, “They lost an incredible 400,000 soldiers and many more civilians.”

He argued that the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, which Russia had supported for years, showed Russia's “weakness”, mainly as a result of the war in Ukraine and a “bad economy”.

“I know Vladimir well. It's time for him to act. China will help. The world is waiting!” Trump declared.

After meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and President-elect Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed his intention to work with the incoming administration to reach a peace agreement with Russia.

“President Trump is as resolute as ever. I thank him. I also thank Emanuel for organizing this important meeting.” I wrote With X.

“We all want this war to end as soon as possible and in a fair way. We talked about our people, the situation on the ground and a just peace,” Zelenskiy continued.

“We have agreed to continue to work together and stay in touch. Peace through strength is possible.”

Although he hasn't made any official promises, President Zelenskiy last month suggested he might be willing to agree to a ceasefire with Moscow without Russian troops withdrawing from all of Ukraine, and Kiev is in talks with President Putin. This request has been made for many years as a precondition for talks between the two countries.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Ukraine would seek the return of remaining territory from Russia through “diplomatic means” and that a deal could be reached if it was guaranteed that the remaining areas of Ukraine would be protected under the “NATO umbrella”. He said there is a possibility.

But it remains to be seen whether the Kremlin will agree to a peace deal absent a commitment from Kiev to abandon its desire to join the US-led NATO military alliance.
