Trump Calls for Federal Reserve Governor’s Resignation

On Wednesday, former President Trump urged the resignation of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, stressing this demand following a call from the head of the federal housing finance agency.

As of now, representatives for the Federal Reserve and Cook have not provided any comments on the situation.

“Cook must resign, now!!!” Trump stated in a post on his social media, marking another move in his ongoing campaign to reshape the leadership of the US Central Bank.

Earlier in the day, FHFA Director Bill Prute filed a complaint related to Cook’s mortgage dealings, suggesting issues surrounding her designation of an Atlanta condo as a primary residence after securing a loan linked to her Michigan home.

Pruett also conveyed, in part, a letter addressed to Attorney General Pam Bondi, revealing that the FHFA has acquired Cook’s mortgage records, which include two loans from mid-2021.

“What she did is grounds for her dismissal, so she needs to stop,” he emphasized in another post.

Trump has been vocal about his discontent with the Fed and its chair, Jerome Powell, calling for significant cuts in interest rates in recent comments.

Additionally, Trump appears to be building a closer relationship with Powell as he seeks to reshape his monetary policy framework.

Just earlier this month, he appointed Economic Advisors Council Chairman Stephen Milan to fill the vacancy left by Gov. Adriana Coogler’s unexpected departure.
