Trump Calls for Unity After Historic Iowa Victory

Donald Trump won a historic victory in the Iowa caucuses on Monday night, defeating his competitors by a wide margin, and the Associated Press called off the campaign just 31 minutes after the caucuses officially began.

“I truly believe this is a time for our country to come together,” Trump said in his polite victory speech. “We want to come together.

“Whether we're Republican or Democrat, whether we're liberal or conservative, we all come together to fix the world, fix the problems, fix all the death and destruction that we're seeing. It would be great if we could do that.”

With results still strong in some precincts, Trump has more than 50 percent, with Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley still vying for a distant second place.

“I want to congratulate Ron and Nikki on the wonderful time they had together,” President Trump said. “We all have a good time together. And I think they actually did very well. It's true. I think they both did very well. I don't know about second place either.

Trump also criticized Congress, especially the Senate, for not rallying around him.

About 20 Republican senators support Trump, but Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is the least popular politician in the nation, with just 6 percent support in recent polls. Home has continued to oppose Trump ever since the public feud broke out. At the end of President Trump's first term.

“We have so many senators. If I went through all the names, we'd be here all night and everyone would be mad at me,” Trump said. “But the senators and congressmen in Washington came from every state. I want to thank them very much.”

Trump spoke about conditions in historically poor countries and called for Republicans to unite around his candidacy. “There's actually never been anything like this. It's very important. And we want to make that a very important part of our message. Let's go together. That too. It’s going to happen soon and I’m grateful.”
