Trump Calls for Jail Time for Liberal Leaders Amid Violent Protests
As protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) escalate in violence, President Trump has suggested that liberal mayors and governors should face imprisonment for their lack of support for law enforcement.
ICE facilities and agents in Chicago have been targets of aggressive actions from activists opposing the president’s stricter deportation policies. There are claims that local officials are not providing necessary support to law enforcement agencies.
In a concerning incident, a Border Patrol vehicle was reportedly surrounded, leading agents to open fire on a female protester who was thought to be wielding a “semi-automatic rifle.”
This past Wednesday, Trump took to Truth Social, directly addressing Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, both Democrats, stating, “The Mayor of Chicago should go to jail for failing to protect his ICE workers! Governor Pritzker too!”
His comments seemed to be in response to remarks made by Pritzker regarding the deployment of Texas National Guard troops to combat anti-ICE protests in Chicago.
Pritzker criticized what he termed the “Trump invasion,” suggesting that it was not just federal agents being sent, but also troops from other states, which he and others opposed. He emphasized that the president should not send military forces without the consent of state officials.
Meanwhile, Mayor Johnson has initiated efforts to create “ICE-free zones” in Chicago, positioning it as an effort to curtail federal agency operations within the city. During a press conference, he noted that this would help limit aggressive enforcement actions and promote community unity.
“No one is above the law,” he asserted, indicating that if laws are broken, individuals will be held accountable, and if Congress does not intervene, Chicago will step in.
Federal deportation activities in Chicago are intensifying, motivated by sanctuary city policies designed to protect undocumented immigrants.
Over the weekend, a notable incident involved a Border Patrol vehicle reportedly trapped and agents firing at a protester brandishing a weapon.
In response to inquiries, Pritzker’s office referred to his comments on social media, stating he would not compromise under pressure from Trump, who, he claimed, is now attempting to use arrest threats against elected officials to enhance his control.
“We all have to stand up and speak out,” he added.
Attempts to gain a response from Johnson’s office went unanswered.
