Trump Can’t Get Fair Trial in DC

Democratic election lawyer Marc E. Elias on Sunday pointed to President Trump’s low number of votes in Saturday’s Republican primary in the District of Columbia, saying President Donald Trump had no right to a fair trial in the District. He boasted that he could not accept it.

Elias runs the so-called “Democracy Papers,” which files lawsuits on behalf of the Democratic Party and claims to protect “democracy” in doing so. He played a key role in spreading the “Russian collusion” hoax aimed at undermining the results of the 2016 presidential election. He also helped litigate states to change voting laws ahead of the 2020 presidential election to allow for mass voting by mail, a tactic critical to Democratic turnout in battleground states. .

His comments not only acknowledged that Trump would not be able to receive a fair trial in a jurisdiction where there are many potential jurors opposed to him, but they also made it more likely that the former president would be convicted. It also praised the fact that it would make things easier.

President Trump faces criminal charges brought by Jack Smith, Special Counsel for the District of Columbia, in connection with his efforts to contest the 2020 election results (Elias himself also (even citing alleged problems with voting machines).

Elias has never faced charges related to his role in the “Russia collusion” hoax, but he was called as a witness in the trial of former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussman, who Critics said that could have been acquitted by a D.C. jury. Given the facts, the result of jury nullification by those opposed to the former president.
