Trump Votes by Mail in Florida Primary

In the recent Florida primary, President Trump opted to vote by mail, despite his encouragement for others to cast their votes in person. The White House characterized his choice as “inconsequential,” explaining he was too occupied in Washington, D.C. to travel back to his home city.

According to White House press secretary Olivia Wales, “It’s well-known that the president resides in Palm Beach and participates in Florida elections, but primarily lives at the White House. This detail isn’t the focus of the story.”

Records from Palm Beach County indicate that Trump requested his mail-in ballot in late July and returned it on August 13, as reported by Politico.

Moreover, the president is advocating for the passage of the Save America Act, which aims to enforce proof of citizenship for voting and tighten guidelines for mail-in voting, although it makes exceptions for absentee ballots.

Wales noted, “As President Trump mentioned, the SAVE America Act allows reasonable exceptions for Americans voting by mail due to illness, disability, military service, or travel. However, broad mail-in voting poses a significant risk of fraud and should be restricted.”

Trump has frequently expressed concerns about the risks associated with mail-in voting, advocating its limitation to military personnel, travelers, and individuals facing disabilities or health issues.

It’s important to note that Florida law permits all eligible registered voters to request a mail-in ballot. Trump is registered in Palm Beach County, where his Mar-a-Lago residence is recorded as his home address, but he hasn’t visited the state for several months.

This isn’t the first instance of Trump voting by mail in Florida; he did the same during a special state legislative election in March. He explained at the time, “Given my role as the President, I decided to vote by mail for the Florida election, believing it best to remain here rather than enjoy the beautiful sunshine.”

In contrast, Trump’s eldest son, Eric, and his wife, Lara, opted to vote in person, with Lara posting a reminder on social media about Florida’s unique ‘I Voted’ stickers featuring flamingos, urging residents to cast their ballots.

The primary race in Florida is proving competitive for the Republican gubernatorial nomination. Trump is backing Republican Rep. Byron Donald, who is perceived as a frontrunner against Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, former state House Speaker Paul Renner, and investor James Fishback.
