Trump cautions that New York will change permanently if Mamdani becomes mayor.

President Donald Trump has issued a warning regarding New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, suggesting that the city will be drastically changed if Mamdani is elected. Mamdani, a Ugandan-born Muslim, won the Democratic primary for mayor in June and identifies as a democratic socialist.

Trump made it clear that he believes New Yorkers, especially those from Queens, should avoid voting for Mamdani. During a cabinet meeting, he stated, “No. 1, you shouldn’t vote for him because there are communists running. He’s a disaster. He has the Democratic nomination.” He expressed concerns about the U.S. becoming a socialist country, a stance he reiterated strongly.

Mamdani hasn’t responded to requests for comments from various news outlets. Trump has also threatened legal action against him, claiming he could be arrested for blocking federal immigration officials, which followed Mamdani’s earlier commitment to prevent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from carrying out deportations.

In light of Trump’s remarks, Mamdani condemned the threats as an assault on democracy. He stated, “The U.S. President threatened me to be arrested, stripped of my citizenship, put in a detention camp and deported, not because I broke the law, but because I refuse to terrorize our city.”

Trump has criticized Mamdani over his reluctance to denounce the term “intifada globalization,” which many view as contentious. This phrase, tied to Palestinian resistance, has drawn criticism from various Democrats, including New York’s minority leader Hakim Jeffries, who labeled it as unacceptable.

Overall, the tension continues to rise as the mayoral race progresses, with both candidates drawing sharp lines in the political landscape of New York City.
