A federal judge has rejected ABC News’ attempt to have a defamation lawsuit filed by Donald Trump dismissed.

The lawsuit stems from a claim filed on March 10 by George Stephanopoulos.

The Hill reported:

A federal judge on Wednesday denied a motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by ABC News and George Stephanopoulos that alleges former President Trump defamed him in a March interview.

The ruling moves forward in Trump’s lawsuit against the network and Stephanopoulos, who repeatedly said during congressional interviews that Trump was “responsible for rape” in a lawsuit brought by columnist E. Jean Carroll in which a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse but not for rape.

In a 21-page decision handed down Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Cecilia Altonaga rejected several defenses ABC asserted in Trump’s lawsuit, including the argument that it was protected by fair reporting privilege.

Trump’s defamation complaint stems from an interview Stephanopoulos did with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) on “This Week” on March 10. When questioning Rep. Mace about her support for Trump, Stephanopoulos stated 10 times that a jury had found Trump responsible for rape.

Donald Trump celebrated it as a “big win.”
