President Donald Trump has issued a statement celebrating the election victory of German conservative opposition leader Friedrich Merz.

On Sunday, the country's central right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) won the national elections, according to an Exit poll. Merz advocated victory and expelled incumbent Social Democrat Prime Minister Olaf Scholz.
“It appears that the German Conservatives have won a very large and highly anticipated election,” Trump wrote in a post about True Society. “Like America, Germans are getting bored of the unconventional agenda, especially about energy and immigration.
“This is a great day for Germany and for the United States, under the guidance of a gentleman named Donald J. Trump,” he added. “Congratulations to everyone – more wins than ever!!!”
CDU leader Meltz is expected to score a more difficult line than Scortz in immigration. Meltz said he would implement a 15-point plan to tackle immigration, including closing the border and ousting denied asylum seekers.
Mertz says that they must form a coalition with one or more other parties, but that the German right-wing alternative, which has finished a strong two seconds in the poll, will not.
