Trump Signs Order to Rename Lake Ontario
President Donald Trump has officially signed an executive order changing the name of “Lake Ontario” to “Lake America.”
“We’re going to be changing the name of Lake Ontario, effective immediately, to Lake America,” Trump announced during a press briefing at the Oval Office.
“We filed all the necessary papers, documents, everything else,” he added. “We notified all of the various people that we have to notify. So, we’ve done everything that you have to do, and this is official, effective immediately.”
This action coincides with rising tensions between the U.S. and Canada. Recently, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney implemented retaliatory tariffs of up to 50% on imports from the United States.
Trump dismissed the concerns of the Canadian government, labeling their negotiators as the “most difficult and unreasonable,” and claiming they engage in unfair trade practices.
“The Canadian officials have created this [trade war] very badly,” the president explained. “They’re nasty people. They charge our farmers 400% tariffs.”
This executive order follows last year’s decision to officially designate the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” on U.S. maps.
“If you think about it, we have a gulf and we have a lake. Now, all we need is an ocean. So maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific,” Trump mentioned, hinting at future changes.
