Trump Claims Vance-Rubio Partnership in 2028 Would Be 'Extremely Strong'

Trump Calls Vance and Rubio “Unbeatable”

On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump expressed his strong belief that Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio would form an “unbeatable” combination for the 2028 Republican nomination.

Speaking to New York Post reporter Miranda Devine, Trump mentioned that he has been observing the relationship between Vance and Rubio. “So I see them together. They get along very well. They have a good relationship. They’re similar in a lot of ways, but they’re very talented,” he remarked. “If we can run together as a team, I think we will be invincible.”

Just before, he shared his fondness for both Vance and Rubio, indicating they could make a powerful team. “Well, I like them both and I like them together. It would be great. I don’t know how we would beat them if they were together. It would be a great team. JD and Marco would be a great team,” he said.

Trump acknowledged that the duo would need to agree on the ticket, adding, “We still have a long time left. We have more than two-and-a-half years.” When questioned about the age difference—Rubio being 55 and Vance 41—Trump brushed it off, calling both of them “young guys” and praised their capabilities compared to potential Democratic candidates. “I think JD and Marco as a team will be very difficult to beat, compared to the lower IQ people on the other side,” he explained.

For months, Trump has been promoting the idea of a Vance-Rubio ticket, previously stating on Air Force One that such a pairing would be quite formidable. “I don’t know if there’s anyone who can compete with those two. If they form a group, I think it’s unstoppable. I truly believe that is the case,” he noted.

During a December Cabinet meeting, Trump hinted that the Republican nominee in 2028 would likely be someone present in the meeting. “It’s not me, it’s probably someone sitting at this table,” he said. He added, “There could be a few people sitting at this table running with me, but I want them to win because we’ve done a great job for this country and I want that to carry on.”
