Trump Promotes Foreign Policy at Scottish Golf Course Opening
While at his new golf course in Scotland on Tuesday, President Donald Trump highlighted his foreign policy achievements, coinciding with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks regarding the food supply situation in Gaza.
Trump made an appearance before reporters at Trump International Golf Links, located near Aberdeen, where he and his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, launched the new course. “I look forward to playing it today. I’ll play it soon. Then I’ll head back to DC and put out all kinds of fires around the world,” he commented while officially opening the course in Barmedi Village, along Scotland’s northern coast.
“We did one yesterday. You know, we stopped the war, but we stopped five wars,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of his work over leisure. “As much as I enjoy golf, the work we’re doing is far more crucial.” He added that he believes this is going to be “a special year, a special decade,” asserting that they are making countries strong again and doing it quickly.
In related news, former Israeli officials are advocating for a dual approach to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas.
Amid pressures from the U.S., Thailand and Cambodia have managed to establish a ceasefire agreement. The Trump administration continues to assert that it plays a vital role in preventing nuclear escalation between India and Pakistan, along with addressing conflicts involving Serbia and Kosovo, as well as violence in Central Africa.
Earlier this year, a ceasefire was reached by Yemen’s Iran-supported Houthis following a strike by the U.S. and the U.K.
In late June, Trump ordered a military strike on Iranian nuclear sites, claiming it ended the Israeli-Iran conflict within twelve days, avoiding further loss of life. However, recent talks aimed at establishing a ceasefire in Doha, Qatar, saw the U.S. and Israel withdraw their negotiators. According to Trump’s advisor Steve Witkov, Hamas showed no intention of cooperating to secure the return of hostages following their attacks on Israel.
After the ceremony, reporters posed questions about what Trump might communicate to Netanyahu. “We’re working together to fix things globally,” he replied.
On Monday, Trump had a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer at the Trump Turnberry golf course in Scotland. Reacting to Netanyahu’s comments about Gaza, Trump seemed to agree, reflecting on the current concerns.
Trump argued that the U.S. lacks adequate credibility regarding the aid provided to Gaza, controlled by Hamas. His five-day international trip primarily focused on promoting luxury family-friendly facilities and playing golf.
During this trip, Trump also discussed a new trade framework for tariffs between the U.S. and the 27 countries of the European Union, though specific details remain unspecified. “We’ve just signed an important deal with the EU, and the UK was part of that last week. It’s quite significant for the country and everyone involved,” he stated.
Trump had extended an invitation to a prominent figure who famously does not play golf, allowing time for a private tour of his Aberdeen property before the day’s formalities.
Trump International Golf Links in Scotland boasts “the largest 36 holes in golf.” The course, designed by Eric Trump, is expected to host the PGA Senior Championship after Trump’s departure. “These are hard to come by, and they won’t be built again. We might not see another course like this built on dunes,” he remarked about the new course.
This golf course is the third-largest owned by the Trump organization in Scotland. Trump had acquired Turnberry in 2014 and inaugurated another course near Aberdeen in 2012.
At the ceremony, Trump commended Sarah Malone, who has been with Trump International Golf Links Scotland for 16 years, calling her a part of their family.
Trump’s late mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, hailed from the Isle of Lewis in northern Scotland and had a strong connection to the region. “We love Scotland. My mom was born here and cherished it. She visited every year with her sisters,” he shared.
Additionally, he thanked his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, who joined him at the new course, as she prepares for her role in leading the Republican Party into the upcoming presidential election.
