Trump comments following the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham at 71

Senator Lindsey Graham Passes Away at 71

Former President Trump expressed his condolences regarding the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham, describing him as a “true American patriot.” Graham died Saturday at the age of 71.

Trump shared on Truth Social early Sunday, “Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest men and senators I have ever known, has passed away. He was always working and a true American patriot.” He added, “I’m going to miss you so much Lindsey!!!”

Details regarding Graham’s funeral will be made available shortly, according to Trump. Graham’s office stated that the senator passed away following a brief illness.

Graham had a long political career, representing South Carolina in the House from 1995 to 2003, then in the Senate from 2003 until his death. He was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee during Trump’s first term, from 2019 to 2021, and became one of Trump’s closest allies, particularly during efforts related to Iran.

The relationship between Trump and Graham has evolved significantly. Initially, Graham was one of the strongest critics of Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign and even ran against him for the Republican nomination. However, following the election, Graham became one of Trump’s vocal supporters in the Senate, especially during both impeachment trials, where he voted for acquittal each time.

After Biden’s victory in 2020, Graham backed Trump’s attempts to challenge the election results in various key states. He also collaborated with Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign and remained an influential figure in matters of foreign policy and national security.

In recent months, Graham has been a prominent supporter of Trump’s military actions against Iran, stating that such actions are crucial to preventing Iran from advancing its nuclear capabilities.
