Trump comments on Mahmoud Khalil, arrested after Columbia anti-Israel protests

President Donald Trump worked on the True Society on Monday to tackle the ice arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, whom he called “a fundamental foreign pro-Hamas student on Columbia University campus.”

“This is the first arrest of many people going forward. Columbia and other universities have more students at other universities engaged in terrorist, anti-Semitism and anti-American activities, and the Trump administration will not tolerate it,” Trump said in the Post. “Many are paid agitators, not students. We find these terrorist sympathizers from our country, arrest them and deport them.

The president went on to say that many people protesting Khalil's arrest at university are not students, but rather “paid agitators.”

On Monday afternoon, a handful of protesters gathered outside the entrance to Columbia University in New York City, chanting “Free Mahmoud Khalil” and “Campus of Police and Ice.” They had signs that included social media handles for Revcoms, a self-descriptive group of “revolutionary communists.”

“If you support terrorism, including the massacre of innocent men, women and children, then your presence is in opposition to our national and foreign policy interests and you are not welcome here,” Trump's post continued. “We expect all American universities and universities to follow.”

Students claim that Halil has been the leader of the protest and camp for months on the Columbia University campus. He was detained in His university-owned apartment on the Upper West Side in Manhattan on Saturday.

According to Khalil's lawyer Amy E. Greer, Ice's agent told Khalil he was acting on a State Department order to revoke his green card and student visa. She issued a statement claiming it ICE agents illegally arrested Halil.

“Last night, the ice agent mistakenly arrested Mahmoud Khalil, claiming that the Mahmoud visa had been revoked. “Faced with that fact, the ice agent detained him anyway.”

Cair National, a Muslim civil rights group, also came to Khalil's defense, claiming in X's post he was “legal permanent resident,” vowing that “the fight has just begun.”
