Trump Critiques New York Mayor-Elect’s Speech
President Donald Trump has expressed his disapproval of Zoran Mamdani’s acceptance speech following the election for New York City mayor, describing it as “very angry.” He cautioned that communism “has never worked.”
On “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Trump commented on the recent election outcomes, highlighting the gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia. Republicans Jack Ciatarelli and Winsome Earl Sears were surpassed by Democrats Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger, respectively. In New York City, the “democratic socialist” Mamdani emerged victorious.
While Trump thought New Jersey would perform better, he wasn’t particularly shocked by the results in Virginia and New York. He stated, “I thought New Jersey would do a little better than that,” attributing some failures to Andrew Cuomo’s controversies. He noted that Curtis Sliwa, the Republican candidate, had tried hard but ultimately faced an uphill battle against Mamdani.
Trump remarked on Mamdani’s passion for New York, saying he wants the new mayor to “do well,” but sharply criticized Mamdani’s purported communist views, urging him to “show respect” to the federal government.
In his remarks, Trump asserted that “Communism has not worked for a thousand years,” expressing skepticism over its potential success now. He claimed that the prolonged government shutdown impacted the election results significantly and accused Democrats of causing an unprecedented situation with their actions during the shutdown.
He pointed out that in past shutdowns, deadlines had typically been extended, which he suggested should happen automatically. “As soon as they agree, we will sign a contract,” he added, emphasizing the need for collaboration.
Despite his criticisms, Trump indicated a willingness to work with Democrats, especially on healthcare, describing the Affordable Care Act as a “disaster” and expressing interest in resolving its issues.
Trump also suggested that eliminating the filibuster could lead to beneficial legislation, asserting that such a move would enable many positive changes to be approved.
