WASHINGTON — President Trump shared with the Post that he recently talked to golfer Tiger Woods, who was arrested for drunk driving in Florida. He remarked that Woods has faced many challenges in his life, particularly due to physical injuries, but emphasized that the athlete is “doing great.”
During a phone interview on Tuesday, Trump confirmed he had a conversation with Woods. “I think he’s doing well,” he said, expressing optimism about Woods’ current state.
The 50-year-old golfer, who is in a relationship with Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife Vanessa Trump, reportedly had two hydrocodone pills in his possession when he overturned his luxury Land Rover on Jupiter Island, Florida, last Friday.
Trump mentioned, “He tested negative for alcohol and is dealing with a lot of physical pressure stemming from various ailments, particularly his back and legs.” He noted Woods has endured a life filled with pain, stating, “He’s a great guy. He’s a great athlete. He’s certainly been in pain.”
Trump also clarified: “He doesn’t have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain.”
Investigators have suggested that Woods may have been under the influence of some type of drug or narcotic at the time of the accident, which involved him crashing into a truck and flipping his SUV just moments from his home.
An arrest report mentioned that Woods had “bloodshot and glassy” eyes, with “hyperdilated” pupils right after the incident.

The golf star agreed to numerous sobriety tests at the scene and disclosed to officers his prescription medication use, along with a medical history that includes “seven back surgeries and over 20 leg surgeries.”
Despite a breath test showing no alcohol present, Woods declined to take a urine test at the scene, according to the report.
He explained to police that he lost control while looking at his cell phone and changing the radio station, claiming he didn’t notice the car in front of him slow down prior to the crash.
Ultimately, Woods has been charged with driving under the influence, causing property damage, and refusing to submit to a lawful test.
