Trump Rallies Supporters Ahead of New Jersey and Virginia Elections
Totowa, New Jersey – As voting draws near, President Donald Trump is making a last push in New Jersey and Virginia’s gubernatorial elections. This effort seems aimed at energizing MAGA supporters, who historically might not show up for elections when Trump isn’t on the ballot.
The president plans to host a telephone rally just before the polls open, in a unique election cycle where New Jersey and Virginia hold gubernatorial contests after a presidential election.
These races traditionally gain significant national attention, serving as an indicator for next year’s midterms, where Republicans are keen to defend slim majorities in both the House and Senate. Notably, this election represents a pivotal moment for Trump’s agenda since his return to political life.
Trump recently endorsed New Jersey’s Republican gubernatorial hopeful, Jack Ciattarelli, expressing his full support through social media. He stated, “Jack will be a great governor and I have my complete and total support. He will never let you down.”
Ciattarelli has been narrowing the gap with his opponent, Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill, in a state that usually leans Democratic, especially now with Governor Phil Murphy’s term coming to an end.
Following a recent campaign stop, Ciattarelli noted the importance of voter turnout, saying, “We appreciate what the president is doing to excite the base. The future of our state is at stake. Let’s get out and vote.”
Despite a continuous Democratic edge in New Jersey elections, Republicans have successfully contested gubernatorial elections, winning five out of the last ten.
Interestingly, even though Trump’s approval ratings haven’t been stellar in New Jersey, he did manage to make significant strides in the state during the last presidential election, reducing the Democratic margin from 16 points four years ago to just six points.
On the eve of Election Day, Trump’s telephone rally seeks to boost enthusiasm among MAGA supporters, encouraging faithful voters not to skip this election. During a previous event, over 180,000 people were reached through automated calls urging them to participate.
A seasoned Republican strategist emphasized the need to connect with Trump’s base, pointing out how, in previous cycles, there has seemed to be a disconnect between Trump’s supporters and traditional Republicans. The strategist noted, “To be successful in competitive states like New Jersey and Virginia, we have to ensure every Trump voter from 2024 shows up at the polls.”
Although Trump threw his weight behind Ciattarelli earlier in the primary, he has not extended the same support to Virginia’s Republican candidate, Winsome Earl Sears, who is running against former Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger.
Both Trump and Virginia’s Governor Glenn Youngkin participated in a rally that included discussions with local Republican candidates, reinforcing their support for Republican initiatives.
In a recent social media post, Trump reminded voters that choosing the Republican ticket translates to significantly lower energy prices. The sentiment was clear: opting out of voting is akin to endorsing the opposition.
This campaign effort includes significant financial backing as well, with Trump investing around $1 million in both New Jersey and Virginia to assist get-out-the-vote strategies. Comparatively, the Democratic National Committee has deployed over $7 million in recent months to mobilize their base in key states.
DNC Chairman Ken Martin expressed confidence in the party’s strategy, stating, “I expect us to win the elections in New Jersey and Virginia. We’re pretty bullish about the opportunity.” The stakes feel high, reflecting the ongoing tension and competition between the parties as the election approaches.
