During a press conference on Monday morning, President Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that Trump has signed an executive order aimed at lowering prescription drug costs.
Kennedy described it as “an extraordinary day,” noting that cutting prescription drug prices is a goal that many prominent Democratic leaders have endorsed.
“This support stems from President Bernie Sanders, who has been working to reconcile the disparities between the U.S. and European pharmaceutical industries,” Kennedy remarked.
He pointed out that the pharmaceutical industry spends “three times as much on lobbying as the next largest lobby.”
“This issue has been a hot topic; nobody dared to act because it was seen as too risky politically. Now we have a president who stands by his promises and shows real courage,” he added.
“He’s here for the American people… President Trump asserts that he stands against the oligarchs. No one is better positioned to confront them than he is,” Kennedy stated.
“I never imagined I would see this in my lifetime. I have kids who are Democrats and big fans of Bernie Sanders. When they learned about this, they were brought to tears,” he expressed.
The press conference revealed that “prescription drug prices could decrease by 30% to 80% almost immediately,” following Trump’s initial announcement of the executive order on Sunday.
