Trump considers Jeanine Pirro for a leading prosecutor role in Washington, D.C.

Former judge Jeanine Pirro, who is known as a Fox News host and previously served as the District of Columbia’s chief prosecutor, is among the candidates being considered by President Trump, according to various reports.

Pirro isn’t the only option being weighed to take over the role from U.S. lawyer Ed Martin, whose nomination appears to be on shaky ground amid Republican pushback.

ABC News initially revealed that Trump has been looking at Pirro for this position, and while nothing’s set in stone, an announcement regarding her nomination could potentially happen soon.

A spokesperson from the White House has chosen not to comment on the situation.

Pirro, who has served multiple terms as district attorney in Westchester County, New York, is currently a Fox News personality and frequently appears on “The Five,” although she wasn’t part of the panel on Thursday.

She is a vocal supporter of Trump.

The path to Martin’s confirmation hit some roadblocks when Senator Tom Tillis (R-N.C.), a member of the Judiciary Committee, publicly stated that he would not back Martin, which complicated his chances given the narrow margin in the Senate.

Martin, lacking prior prosecutorial experience, has already made a few notable decisions during his brief time in the role. Meanwhile, he is expected to remain as temporary U.S. lawyer until May 20th.

Previously involved in the “Stop the Steal” movement, Martin defended individuals charged related to the January 6th events, and one of his initial actions in office was to reassign or let go of prosecutors handling those cases.
