Trump Could Have Designated Mexican Cartels As Terrorist Organizations, He Didn’t

During a CNN town hall on Thursday, 2024 Republican presidential candidate Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that when his 2024 Republican presidential rival, former President Donald Trump, was president, he called Mexican drug cartels into foreign terrorist organizations. He said he could have specified it, but did not do so. It doesn't.

“We need a job agent in Washington,” DeSantis said. “We need someone to step in there and actually loosen up the bureaucracy, and President Trump promised that and didn't do it. We don't need to build a wall. We need a president who will stop people from crossing our borders, which President Trump has promised but hasn't done. We also need someone who will deport people who are in the country illegally. Donald Trump launched the largest deportation in history in 2016. He said he would do fewer deportations than President Barack Obama did in his first term. And I'm going to do the work. And I'm going to do the job. We will hold them accountable. They have killed tens of thousands of their fellow Americans. If I become president, I will designate them as a foreign terrorist organization. Donald Trump had the opportunity to do that. . He didn't do it. I will.”
