“Shark Tank” star and investor Kevin O’Leary said on CNN’s “Laura Coates Live” on Friday that former President Donald Trump’s pick for vice president should be “someone very different from him, someone who can do things.”
“But I’ve heard you’re endorsing a particular individual, Governor Doug Burgum, as a running mate for President Trump. You’ve referred to him as Trump insurance. Can you explain why that is and why you’re considering or wanting him as a running mate?” Coats said.
“I’ve sat down with the governor and his staff, and this guy will do it, whether you need permits, whether you need policy, whether you want to pay taxes. You have to talk to the CEO of the company, but he’s a businessman, so there’s a personal reflection here. And frankly, I think Trump needs someone who is very different from him, who can do it,” O’Leary said.
He added, “You give Burgum this job and he’s telling him to fix the border, fix energy, fix whatever it is that he’s doing. And I’m just saying this from a personal perspective. Trump is a bombastic person and I like this guy as insurance for Trump, but he himself has said in recent weeks, ‘I made some mistakes in my first term and I’m not going to hire the same people and redeploy them.'”
