OTTAWA, Canada – Former Canadian central bank governor Mark Carney will become Canada's next prime minister after winning a liberal leadership race on Sunday night. “Canada will never become a part of America in shape, shape or form,” Carney told supporters.
Carney received 86% of the votes, or 131,764 votes, from 151,899 cast from around 400,000 party members who registered to participate in leadership elections.
The new liberal leader told members that they should be ready to fight “the stakes are not as high as ever” and “the most important elections in our lives.”
He said Canada is “the greatest country in the world, and now our neighbors want to take us with us.”

She further states that the new liberal leader is running on the “Trudeau's Record,” and although Carney was not a member of the Prime Minister's government, he was appointed by the Liberals last September and chaired the task force on Trudeau's economic growth.
“The next election is who will make life more affordable for Canadians,” Kurkimaki said. “What's happening in the US will of course affect creating economic uncertainty in Canada.”

She added that the longer Kearney waits for the election to call, the more time conservatives will have to launch attackers against him.
During the election, the party faces spending restrictions.
