OTTAWA, Canada – Former Canadian central bank governor Mark Carney will become Canada's next prime minister after winning a liberal leadership race on Sunday night. “Canada will never become a part of America in shape, shape or form,” Carney told supporters.

Carney received 86% of the votes, or 131,764 votes, from 151,899 cast from around 400,000 party members who registered to participate in leadership elections.

The new liberal leader told members that they should be ready to fight “the stakes are not as high as ever” and “the most important elections in our lives.”

He said Canada is “the greatest country in the world, and now our neighbors want to take us with us.”
