Trump Critiques Rep. Salazar’s Pro-Amnesty Efforts

On Saturday, President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to express criticism against Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL), who is advocating for her “Digndad” bill that could potentially legalize around 17 million migrants.

Salazar, who has support from business interests, has even mentioned that the bill aims to provide “cheap labor” for employers.

In his posts, Trump shared his thoughts:

Salazar previously won her primary election in August with an impressive 81 percent, thanks in part to Trump’s endorsement.

Trump’s messages aim to discourage other Republican members from supporting Salazar’s attempts to pass her bill, which seeks to push through with a discharge petition that could lead to a vote in the lame-duck session post-November elections.

This strategic timing might help retiring GOP officials do a final favor for their corporate backers.

Earlier, Salazar released a video addressing Trump, criticizing him for sticking to his promise of mass deportations. In that ad, she seemed to distance herself from the amnesty proposal in her own bill while attempting to flatter Trump by comparing him to a second Abraham Lincoln:

President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far. In July, 50 percent of the 50,000 people that were detained had no criminal record. Be careful what your advisers are telling you about immigration policy. The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today.

You can be for immigration what Lincoln was for slavery and Reagan was for communism. I’m not talking about giving them amnesty. I’m talking about giving them a dignified life in this promised land, and only you can do that.

Trump’s posts counter Salazar’s attempts at flattery:

Salazar has gained support from influential GOP donors and figures like Rupert Murdoch, who owns the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post.

Some Republican members, such as Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), are also backing her, prioritizing foreign interests over those of American citizens.

Many members of the GOP House are rallying behind her corporate-friendly amnesty proposal as well.

Moreover, she’s drawing support from certain Democrats who emphasize helping migrants over citizens.
